District Governor's visit
Breaking with the traditional Tuesday evening meeting, there was a more formal occasion this week. District Governor Deb Gimblett, seen here with her husband, Neville, visited all four clubs in the 'Wellington 3 Cluster'. The venue was Porirua Club in the heart of the city and the meeting took place at lunch time. DG Deb took the opportunity to meet with all four boards during the course of the day to take about each club's plans and goals and to share her own.
Assistant Governor, Simon Manning, acted as Master of Ceremonies. DG Deb talked about the three things dearest to her heart, those of:
- Strengthening Clubs
- Promoting Rotary, and
- Giving to the Rotary Foundation, particularly to accelerate the worldwide eradication of Polio
She laid a challenge down to each member to take a money box and to collect $30 each. Bill and Belinda Gates have committed to match all contributions on a 3:1 basis from their Foundation. Tawa Rotary set the bar high when DG Deb presented President Irene with a certificate, acknowledging Tawa's contribution to the Foundation, making the club a 'Centurion Club'.
