President Denise shared her thoughts about all the communities who have been affected by the might of Cyclone Gabrielle, particularly those on the East Coast. Plans are afoot to coordinate ways to help and in the meantime, she acknowledged their pain and said we would all keep them close to our hearts.
She welcomed Honorary Member, Ted Nation (who we don't see nearly often enough). She also welcomed two returning graduates of the RYLA 2023 programme, Emily Farrer and Maiza Rehan who were introduced formally by Youth Director, Colin, and Maiza's partner, Cameron Lee.
And last, but not least, she gave a warm welcome to John Fiso, local entrepreneur and Wellingtonian of the Year in 2016, who would be formally introduced later by Bruce Phillips.

A board was sent round so that members could express their interest in attending the Bowls Evening on 14 March but it appears not to have travelled very far around the tables. Please let Bryan know if you would like to attend so that she can notify the caterers.

Allan said that there are heaps of items ready to be sold at the Pop-Up-Shop next week and he might consider an 'end of season' sale on the last day if there are still items available for sale. He has sent round a roster of people who have volunteered but there is still time for you to offer if you haven't done so already. Setting up, preparation, and pricing beforehand is important so please get in touch with Alan to offer your help.
Phillip has been considering a new business brand for the club and a board was passed round depicting four possibilites that we could use to recognise our 50 years of service to the local community. Members voted and this one was chosen. This will appear on everything connected to the 50th Anniversary.
There will be a Vocational and Cultural Exchange to Tasmania in June and Team Leaders and Team Members are being sought. Team Leader applications need to be received in the next 7-10 days so please let President Denise know if you would like to be considered or would lie more details. There is also a possibility that accommodation will be sought to host the incoming team.
Lanaco, who provide masks, have just given 7,000 free masks to Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. They have several thousand WP2 masks which are full respiratory masks, available for distribution through Freightways (free) but need to recoup $1 per mask. Has anyone any idea where some funding can be found - individually or through a Rotary club, please? Please contact Adreienne Murray if you can help.
This week’s happenings
As you will have heard from Phillip, Bruce Couch is finalising the numbers for the ‘Imagine’ formal Gala Dinner. This will be at the Southward Event Centre on Saturday 18 March 2023. The cost is $115 per head and includes a free drink on arrival, formal dinner, cash bar and dancing to live music (two bands). If you did not get the chance to put your name down on the board Bruce sent around, it is not too late. Just let Bruce know by 22 February 2023 so he can book us in as a group.
