President Denise gave a warm welcome to Brenda Callear and Annette Craig, both of whom had come along because they'd read in last week's Update that partners were welcome. Well done ladies! Do we assume that none of the other partners read the Update? Members also welcomed back Graham and Annette from overseas.
Viewpoint
There was no Viewpoint this week. Rhondda was to have given her Viewpoint but is unfortunately laid low with Covid. We wish her and Les well.
President Denise asked Donna to say a few words about her experience of 'telling her story' for the Audio Book that is being produced by the Multi Media 50 Archival Committee. Donna conveyed how much pleasure the exercise had given her as she recalled past memories and was able to relive them as she recounted some of them.

Vice President Kay had organised a fun evening of impromptu speeches. She had actually shoulder tapped a few members so that no-one was put on too much of a spot. She had also inveigled past Toastmaster and National finalist in Toastmaster Evaluation Contest, Wendy Betteridge, to evaluate each speech. The six 'victims' drew their topic from a hat;

Each gave a superb performance. They all went off at tangents to regale their audience with comical stories and some built in a bit of drama too. Wendy was hard pressed to offer any helpful thoughts at all about how improvements could be made to future performances, such was the talent on display. She did, however, conclude with a story about when she had to evaluate David Knight giving a 'real' speech on the subject of a visit by Elle McPherson to Kirkcaldie and Staines back in the day. She recounted that her evaluation at the time focused on David's use of hand gestures as he waxed lyrical about how struck he was with Elle's beauty ...
What’s coming up in April and beyond?
Next Tuesday, 18 April, we will hear from Graeme Jupp whose recently released book, 'Titanic in 366 days' was released last year. Graeme's presentation will chronicle his interest in Titanic literature, and the research and compilation of his book.
For those who are occasionally at a loose end on a Friday evening, the next get together of the Orphan's Club will take place on Friday 21 April at 5.30 at the Co-op in Whitby. Everyone is welcome. Just let Kay know so that she can book a table.
And remember that on the very next night, Friday 22 April, we will be meeting at Allan and Barb's at 5.45 for the Pot Luck Movie evening (plus a $20 donation to the victims of cyclone Gabrielle). Allan will be sending emails to those attending, specifying 'plate' requirements. The evening will take the form of nibbles, main course, movie and dessert. The movie is the Jersey Boys and dressing up in 1960s attire to enjoy a fun evening is encouraged with prizes in the offing.
Here's some advance notice that there will be no meeting on Tuesday, 25 April which is, of course, Anzac Day.
