Visitors

President Denise welcomed Dr Frances Hughes, guest of Euon Murrell. Frances is currently the Group General Manager Clinical & Care Services and Clinical Director at Oceania Healthcare in Auckland. She leaves that role on 31 March to take up the position as the National Party's Candidate for Mana

Denise shared some of the thoughts as she came to the end of the third quarter of her year as President and particularly about the time when she was invited to be President. She had set herself a goal for what she wanted her leadership to look like, deciding that it was 'to listen and to enable her leaders and support them'. She reminded members of the Four Way Test. She considers that this has been borne out in her year so far as she looks ahead to an evening of celebration on 23 May. She reminded us that we will need to respond to our Preferential Invitations by midnight on 30 March after which time another 250 invitations will be sent out. As the limit for numbers is 100, we won't want to miss that deadline.

The speaker said …

Mike Doig has summed up Euon's touching presentation last night about the first y ears of his life at Cross Creek. The video he showed had been craftfully edited by Peter Sinke and presented a wonderful visual representation of the Remutake Incline and the six Fell Engines that were used between 1878 and 1955.

Viewpoint

Phillip Whearty gave us his Viewpoint tonight, giving his reasons for rating our Club at 9.5 out of 10. In case you missed it, you can read it here.

What’s coming up in April and beyond?

Next week, 4 April, we'll either be busy with our normal Committees or alternatively ensconced in our 'Event 50' groups, planning for our exciting anniversary year ahead.

Vice-President Kay asked for volunteers to help Alan to set up an auditorium in his home for the Pot Luck Cinema Evening on 22 April. Help will be needed on both 21 and 22 April and a board was sent round. If you can help but didn't get the opportunity to add your name, please let Alan know . Some of the unknowns have been resolved. We do know where the chairs are coming from. We do know that we've been asked to bring $20 along to donate to the families in Hawke's Bay who were badly affected by Cyclone Gabrielle, and we do know that the movie has been chosen and is going to be 'There's something about Mary'. Feel free to 'dress up' for this fun evening if you wish.

Vice-President Kay and Membership Director, John O'Connell are requesting some help with looking after our booth at the Love Local Expo on 10 June. You can read more about it here

As usual, you can find future events here

Snippets

Denise reminded members that if they want to make changes to the Roster it is Leigh Corner that they need to advise (as set out quite clearly each week below the roster!). Leigh prepares the roster four weeks in advance and it is impossible for him to get it accurate if he doesn't have the information he needs about changes that individuals have made.

David Pine is not able to continue as Community Director and Dexter Traill will stand in until the end of this Rotary year. Dexter has a good pedigree. While a Rotarian in District 9920, he was on the RYDA Committee, helping young drivers from low decile communities to achieve their restricted licences, as well as fundraising generally. This year he has been building a relationship with Ngati Toa, something that requires skill and patience.

This week’s happenings

We have received an enquiry from the mother of one of the two footballers who are hoping to attend the Special Olympics in Berlin next June. For anyone who would like to contribute, they have set up a Givealittle page here

Parting thought

Graham Wallace gave us the Parting Thought tonight. He said, 'Integrity is going the right thing when nobody is watching.'
