BalloonsNigel KennedyFloppy wands, a rabbit appearing from nowhere, hats made out of balloons and much more had 55 children from Decile 1 schools in Porirua East laughing their socks off at the Rotary Club of Plimmerton’s annual Children’s Christmas Party on 16 November at Te Rauparaha Arena.

A sea of balloons awaited the children as they sat down to enjoy what Magician, Nigel Kennedy, had to offer.

Burning energyAnd they needed the rest! When they arrived, transported by coach from all over Porirua, they found themselves listening to instructions from two very energetic young coaches from Kelly Sports who soon had them rushing around the sports hall, burning up heaps of energy.

Father ChristmasWhen they’d finished laughing at the magician, an array of wholesome food awaited them - BBQ sausages, hot chips, drinks, ice cream and jellies. This food was quickly devoured and everyone had a new burst of energy to welcome Father Christmas, who Lolly scramblearrived in all his glory with a present for every child.

Despite all the full tummies, a party just wouldn’t be a party without the inevitable lolly scramble and Father Christmas delighted in throwing the lollies far and wide to add to the excitement.

And then, sadly, it was time to get back on the coach so that each child could be returned safely to their homes.

Back on the bus

The Rotary Club of Plimmerton, who organised the afternoon, sincerely thanks not only the teachers who selected the children to attend but also the various organisations and helpers who made a real contribution to the success of this great day for very special kids.
