Visitors

President Denise welcomed our speaker for the evening, Natalie Bryan; Laura Treeby, a guest of Donna's, partners Carolyn Wallace, Janet Reidy, and Sheryl Perera and Honorary member Ron Lucas. John O'Connell welcomed  Brett Jones from Melbourne (caught on camera at last) who will shortly join our ranks.

Denise mentioned the nostalgia she and, she suspected, others had felt at the Gala Dinner last week. She thanked members for making the effort to attend so that happy friendships could be renewed.

The speaker said …

This week’s speaker was Natalie Bryan, whose son Jackson suffers from Auditory Processing Disorder, a condition experienced by about 6% of children. You can read Mike's report here

Viewpoint

Mike Doig gave us his Viewpoint this evening about the British Monarchy. There is no right of reply to a member's Viewpoint, which may be just as well! Here it is.

What’s coming up in June and beyond?

Next week, 6 June, it's committee night and another opportunity to do some planning for the 50th year.

On Saturday 10 June, the Love Local Expo will take place from 9.30-4.30 at Te Rauparaha Arena. Expect to be tapped on the shoulder and asked to help.

Looking ahead, the Robbie Burns night on 27 June promises to produce the usual fun and laughter. We'd like to extend a wide welcome to partners, spouses and friends to enjoy our annual tribute to Robbie Burns and all things Scottish on this, the last night of the 2022-2023 year. There will be lots of laughter, music and even dancing for those who would like to (or are able!)

As usual, you will find future events here.

Snippets

We are expecting the small numbers on Tuesday 20 June as our evening clashes with Plimmerton Inner Wheel's Changeover. In the circumstances, please could you let Philip know if you will be attending on 20 June by Tuesday 6th JuneKay is planning an informal meeting perhaps just with dinner, excellent conversation and a Viewpoint from Bryan Waddle.

The Gala Extravaganza

I promised that I would publish the highlights from our very special 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Tuesday 23 May and here  it all is. I'm certain that those who were there will enjoy reliving the evening and those who were not able to might find that they can feel as if they were! If you go to this link where President Denise outlines how the evening  progressed, you will find the links to all the speeches and, in Phillip's a copy of the programme that everyone was able to take away as a memento. If you would like your own copy, get in touch with Phillip. Nearly 500 photos are still being processed and I will publish these when they are available.

This week’s happenings

We experienced a wonderful Rotary Friendship Exchange with District 6270 from Wisconsin last week. Chris led the team and has written a report about the activities they were involved with, not only with Plimmerton but also throughout the District. You can read it here.

The Almoner said

The good news is that Bryan Waddle is home again and recovering slowly but surely from his operation.

Parting thought

Chris Garrett gave us his own Parting Thought this week, 'Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.'
