A seriously special Gala Celebration of
50 wonderful years

Visitors

There were far too many to mention and it was a real joy to see so many visitors, former members and friends. What a night!

A time to celebrate

We reconnected with old friends, enjoyed some celebratory bubbles, heard some lovely reflections, and a great keynote speech from Nick Leggett, ate a tasty dinner, enjoyed the company of our Rotary Friendship Exchange visitors from Wisconsin and were delighted to witness the awarding of three well-deserved Paul Harris Fellowships to Nick Leggett, Barbara Nichols and Phillip Reidy

There will be much more detail to report next week by which time we will hopefully have very many memorable photos to look at in the Gallery. In the meantime, here are just a few important photos from this very special evening.

What’s coming up in May and beyond?

Next week, 30 May, we will hear from Natalie Bryan, the author of JC The Bumble Bee which she has written and illustrated about a wee bumble bee on his life's journey and how things can be a little different for this bee.

As usual, you can find all future events here.

Parting thought

It isn't a Parting thought - just a few thoughts that resonated with Philip Whearty this week (although I'm sure he's far too young to be having any of these thoughts himself!

Twelve Commandments for those getting older

  1. Talk to yourself. There are times  when you need expert advice.
  2. “In style” are the clothes that still fit.
  3. You don’t need anger management. You need people to stop annoying you.
  4. Your people skills are just fine. It’s your tolerance for idiots that needs work.
  5. The biggest lie you tell yourself is ”I don’t need to write that down. I’ll remember it”
  6. ”On time” is when you get there.
  7. Even duct tape can’t fix stupid, but it sure does muffle the sound.
  8. It would be wonderful if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, then come out wrinkle free and three sizes smaller.
  9. Lately, you’ve noticed people your age, are so much older than you.
  10. Growing older should have taken longer.
  11. Aging has slowed you down, but it hasn’t shut you up.
  12. You still haven’t learnt to act your age, and hope you never will.

And one more - “one for the road” means a comfort stop before you leave home!
