President Bill welcomed Honorary members Jim Dearsly and Peter Turner.

Jim told an amusing story about going to the wrong place on the wrong day, probably at the wrong time, and then having to go home to cook his own dinner only to repeat it the next day when the meeting was elsewhere!

The speaker said …

There were plenty of speakers tonight. President Bill, President-Elect Kay, and members of next year's Board laid out future plans. Members were asked to discuss various matters at their tables and Kay will analyse some of the feedback and report to a future meeting.

What’s coming up in June and beyond?

Next Tuesday 8 June we will celebrate Robbie Burns with an evening of Scottish fun, music, laughter. and a lot more. There will be a 2.7kg haggis, a piper, whisky, and a poet who will deliver some poetry and, oh yes, dancing! We will be entertained! Our various guests will provide us all with an evening to remember. This is definitely a partners' night. Members from the Rotary Club of Porirua have been invited too. It's nearing the end of 'Bill's year' so this is an opportunity to come and support him so that his year ends on a high note. Please give visitors' names or apologies to The Professionals by 4.00pm on Friday 4 June 2021 (remember Monday 7 June is a holiday).

You've already seen reference to Changeover (A Touch of Class) on 29 June in previous Updates, as well as receiving individual invitations. One further request is that you wear your Paul Harris medal and badge/s if you have them. A board has been passed around several times asking you to sign up if you want to go on the bus and, if so, where you want to be picked up. If you didn't do so on the tick sheet please let Peter Sinké know your pick-up point as soon as possible as he and the bus company need to estimate times. The stops are Whitby New World, Mana New World, and Pauatahanui.

To see future events, you can go here.

Snippets

Bill told members that planting will start again at Taupo Swamp on Wednesdays 30 June, and 14 July, and on Saturday 31 July. He anticipates that we will be joined by 50 members of the PCC Parks Department to help plant 5,000 trees and plants on 30 June. It is a normal workday and they have been 'volunteered' by their Parks boss. This is very encouraging and there is a small possibility that the wider PCC staff may also be involved as a community day.. If you can spare an hour or more at any of these times, please turn up suitably attired and equipped as usual.

A list went around asking for volunteers to 'person' our stall at Love Local Expo which will take place at Te Rauparaha Arena on 12 June between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Please let Bryan Waddle know if you can help - but forgot to sign the sheet.

Graeme Tongs is still completing member records. If he hasn't contacted you yet, please do so to give him the historical information he is seeking.
