President Denise called for members to stand for a minutes silence as a mark of respect to honour the life of service of Queen Elizabeth II.
President Denise welcomed Nick Emmerson, son-in-law of Bruce Phillips who came to see what goes on at our Rotary meetings - and he chose a great one with loads of fun and laughter.
Denise reminded us that September is Literacy Month and she encouraged members to attend a "Duffy Books" Awards Ceremony. The Club made a donation towards Duffy Books for Rangikura School earlier this calendar year, however Covid settings then in place precluded any large event, however, it is hoped we can celebrate this with the school in another way shortly.
I have mentioned previously that your Board and I are keen to better understand your views and require a greater survey return from that achieved in our earlier survey. Please complete a further survey which has been designed specifically for RCoP. In this survey, we'll probe current and future state thinking. We certainly want to build on our previous survey response rate of just 29%, and seek a 95% response rate from this survey. While this online survey will collect your email address, this will only be used to note how many have completed a response and provides opportunity to prompt those who are yet to complete. These survey results combined with those previously completed will feed into a facilitated strategic workshop which will be held in October. What a night!
Bryan couldn't have put on a more wonderful night for everyone. Even those of us who profess to have very poor general knowledge (I admit it!) were able to answer at least a couple of questions and could rely on our team members to show how knowledgeable they were.
I don't think any of us can imagine how much time and effort Bryan put into organising the evening, researching, coming up with answers to the multiple choice questions that left us scratching our heads because there were times when at least two of the answers might have worked (did any of you find this in your Economics multiple choice questions at University?), finding appropriate prizes and generally delighting us with his banter.
The Editor must take some responsi9bility for not having pushed the marketing of this event in last week's Update and I sincerely apologise to Bryan for this omission. But President Denise announced last week that it was a partners' evening. So where were the crowds? Overseas perhaps? Surely not everyone? I confess that I was pretty disappointed at the low turnout and sad for Bryan who deserved better. I hope that Kay will be able to prevail upon Bryan to run a similar evening in the future and, if he does, I sincerely hope that we will value his contribution by turning up in droves.
Having said all that, here's a lovely photo of Mike holding up the "article" he brought to challenge us. which turned out to be a shuttle from a cotton weaving loom. And we wish Rhondda and her team of Mike, Bob and Phil Whearty all the best early next year as they represent the Club in the Final Round.
Graham Wallace gave us the Viewpoint this evening, which he called "A Balanced View". He regaled us with his perspectives about the various happenings in the world around us, fortunately and unfortunately.

The next Rotary International Convention will be held from 27-31 May 2023 in Melbourne, just a stone's throw across the ditch. Melbourne is a wonderful holiday destination and could be just the place for a visit for those who have put their international travels on hold for so long. So, if you're contemplating some travel next year, perhaps you could include Melbourne in your plans. And wait, there's more. Our Sister Club, Brighton North, have offered to host us. However they need to know numbers fairly soon so their members can work out their whereabouts and possible billeting. If you think this is a possibility for you, please let AG Kay know so that she can alert the members of Brighton North with possible interest. You can find out more about the Convention here.
And two very early notices to put in your diary. The Annual Golf Tournament date has been changed from 25 to 18 November, so please make a note of that, and keep the date of 9 December free for the Christmas Party.

Communications Director, Phillip, encouraged members to buy $5 raffle tickets from any of the Communications team for the next few weeks (you can buy more than one and our President has set a very good example by buying four). the raffle will be drawn on Tuesday 27 September and, as already mentioned, prizes will be both tangible and in kind. He reminded members that the proceeds of the raffle will go to Club funds in an effort to keep subscriptions as low as possible.
The Communications Team has come up with a new concept to raise funds for the Charitable Trust. It's an exciting concept and one that will be of benefit to every single member. It's called "De-clutter Delight" and you can find more details here De-clutter_Delight.
