Speech contest for Porirua Primary Schools

Each November a number of children participate in the finals of the Parumoana Speech Competition. Each of the participating schools, usually nine, hold preliminary rounds for children from years 5 to 8 within their schools. All of the children in the finals have already competed in their own school competitions and have won. The finals are held in the Aotea College Library over a 2-hour period where about seventeen children compete against each other.

Speech competitionIt is the role of Plimmerton Rotary to organise three judges and to sponsor and present the prizes.

Over the years, speech subjects have ranged from Barbie dolls, Shakespeare, poverty, fame, bullying, sporting greats, shark fin soup, wanting a dog, disabilities, soccer - all the way to oranges. All of the children put a lot of effort in to their speeches, searching the internet. taking advice and practising hard.

They are all very passionate, enthusiastic, very well prepared and a joy to listen to.
