Dr. Helen Woolner, a returning Plimmerton Rotary scholar, attended Porirua College and then left in 2000 to attend He Huarahi Tamariki (HHT). She stayed at HHT for 4 years before venturing off to Victoria University of Wellington VUW) to undertake a BSc degree.
Her very first scholarship was in 2005 when she was the recipient of the Rotary Club of Plimmerton Anniversary scholarship for which she is immensely grateful.
Helen graduated her BSc in 2009 and went on to do an MSc, then a PhD in chemistry, which she completed in 2017.
She is now undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship at VUW, which is due to finish in March 2021.
This year she was announced as the 2020 recipient of the Zonta Biennial Science award.
Helen will tell you her story in more detail tonight and talk about the science that she has ended up doing.
