Wendy from Land Information NZ gave us a very interesting talk about place names and how they came about. We have a new club activity called "try something new/different" and many members signed up. Later this month we will be holding our Pink Ribbon Lunch.  May_2018

A number of ladies enjoyed a golf/shopping trip to the Wairarapa.  Lots of fun on the golf course and a great night at the Solway.  Still had plenty of energy for shopping the next day.  Several members attended the Inner Wheel Conference in Melbourne.  They enjoyed four full-on days of inspiring speakers, top class entertainment, business sessions and good food.  April_2018

Newsletter November 2017

With Zonta, we collected Bras and Knickers for the prisoners in Arohata, a great assortment of styles and sizes. Together with Rotary, we had a pop-up shop in Porirua selling pre-loved clothes, shoes, handbags, and jewellery. Several members attended the District Meeting hosted by Inner Wheel Tawa.  November__2017_

Some wonderful pictures of our WOW evening which was a lot of fun. We held a fundraising evening for 3 students from Aotea college to help them go to Yale University to compete in world debating and speech competitions.  October_2017_

We won the Chairman's Award (again) at the District Changeover! Our own Changeover Dinner will be held on 2 July at 5.30 pm at Plimmerton Boating Club when we will welcome our new President, Christine Blick and her Committee. June

We've had another very busy month. We've had CPR training, collected essential toiletries for the Women's Refuge and enjoyed a Ten Pin Bowling evening with Tawa Inner Wheel. A group of members also joined with Rotary to survey our parks to see how accessible they were for disabled children.  May_2017

Newsletter April 2017

March was another very busy month.  We had Dale Williams to talk to us at our meeting and he is always entertaining. Several members went to the District Meeting in Paraparaumu and another bunch of ladies went off to the Wairarapa for a golf/shopping couple of days. Our big fundraiser for the month was the café at the Rotary Book Fair which raised $1,500 for the Shine project - closing the gaps in reading at Porirua schools. April

Newsletter March 2017

We have now moved our meeting place to the Plimmerton Boating Club. Everyone enjoyed the new venue and our first speaker in our new "home" was the Mayor of Porirua, Mike Tana. He spoke of the way he hopes to improve the city and believes Porirua has great potential. Carolyn Wallace was presented with her year book - an album of all the events which took place in her year as President.  March

We celebrated International Inner Wheel Day with Pizza and Plonk - a wonderful afternoon of fun, friendship, food and wine.  Lots of new projects coming up for the start of the year.  February

Plimmerton Inner Wheel had another busy month, donating money to the Wellington Free Ambulance and giving gifts to the children whose parents are in prison. The Craft and Book Group also had lovely outings, especially the one to the Library. Just shows libraries are not all about books these days. The Christmas party was lots of fun with good food, wine and Christmas carolling.  january

Newsletter December 2016

November proved to be another busy month for Plimmerton Inner Wheel.  We now sponsor a new World Vision child, a wee 6-year-old boy called Sithan Boun. With the proceeds raised from the sale of the Entertainment Book we were able to donate $564 to the Wellington Free Ambulance.  Through the Angel Tree, a huge amount of gifts were donated for the children of prisoners. And together with Plimmerton Rotary, we  held the Garden Trail again this year. which was a success. The inclement weather did not seem to put people off visiting the many beautiful gardens.  december

Our October speakers were the two Rotary Exchange Students, Laurie from France and Gaelle from Belgium. It was interesting to find out about their interests and how they were enjoying their time as exchange students. We also presented Rachel Van Diggle with a cheque for $1,700  from our fundraiser for Heart Kids. We were asked by Zonta Mana for donations of Bras and new Knickers for the for the women at Arohata Prison and we had a great collection,  70+ Bras and 40 pairs of knickers.  november

We've had another busy month with lots of activities. Our fundraising event for Heart Kids - the film Bridget Jones's baby - was a great success raising $1,700. Our WOW evening and Walk and Talk with the Wairarapa ladies were a lot of fun and it was pleasing to see the money we donated to English Language Partners was put to good use with an outing for the local refugees.  october

Last month we had a visit from Dale Julius our District Chairperson.  Our speaker was Nicky Edgar with lots of ideas about fashion and how to de-clutter your wardrobe.  We had volunteers collecting for Heart Kids and Daffodil Day and putting together packs for Fosterhope. The ladies were busy putting together silky pillows and wheat bags for the Cancer Society and last week several of them enjoyed a walk and talk with Kapiti Inner Wheel.  september

Plimmerton Inner Wheel had another great month. We had Raewyn Sutton, the Health and Promotion Manager for the Cancer Society, to talk to us. She thanked us for our work with silky pillows and showed us many other products to help ladies with breast cancer. We have had a request from Zonta for magazines for the women at Arohata and are planning a film evening to raise funds for Heart Kids NZ.  august

June/July were very busy for Plimmerton Inner Wheel with both the Changeover to a new President, Carol Woodfield, and the District 294 Changeover in Palmerston North.  The Plimmerton Changeover at the Paremata Boating club went off well, a beautiful day, lots of good food and wine, singing and a Scottish theme that included a bagpipe ceremony.  The District Changeover was another great day of fun and friendship and Plimmerton Inner Wheel won the Chairman's award and the Editors award for the best newsletter.  july

Newsletter June 2016

We had a very interesting speaker, Anne Hayden, who is very amusing to listen to and told us how she dealt with it when she herself got Breast Cancer.  We also had our District Chair visit us and show us the Morna Wood-Moss award which was given to District 294 for the most growth. This was presented to Darlene at the Christchurch Conference. We also enjoyed a wonderful fundraising lunch for Breast Cancer, lots fun, laughter and good food.  june

Our April speaker was Helen Webber, teacher in charge at the He Huarahi Tamariki School for young parents and she gave us an insight into how the school works and had some wonderful stories about the students' achievements. A group of ladies went on an outing into Wellington City visiting the Old Government building, St Paul's and the Archives New Zealand. Several of our members attended the Inner Wheel Conference in Christchurch and  had a wonderful time listening to interesting speakers, and meeting new people.  may

We had wonderfully inspiring speaker for March, Denise Carnihand who told us all about her quest to find her "African" family and how she ended up setting us 2 schools in the Kenyan slums.  The ladies provided and manned the café at the Rotary Bookfair and several went on a Food Tour in Petone - a great day.  april

We had another busy month. We had a very informative talk from Esme Labotsky about Rest and Retirement homes and the help families need to care for people suffering from dementia. A group took an historical  walk around Tinakori Road, the Botanical Gardens, Bolton Cemetery and Memorial Park and yet another group went off to play outdoor bowls with the Tawa Inner Wheel ladies. We have had a very busy month with the fundraiser for Virtuoso Strings (Rack Attack) which was a fantastic night, raising $4,444. We collected bras and panties for Zonta to give to the inmates at Arohata and the Angel Tree presents donated for the children of inmates. We have had yet another busy month.  Our speaker Jacques Wilton from the English Language Partners gave us all a real insight to the difficulties that refugees face.   We had a visit from Margy Carter from World Vision who gave us an update on Nary Rin, the adopted girl we sponsor.   The ladies have been very busy sewing silkie pillows and wheat packs for the Cancer Society.  A number of members went to the Wairarapa for a Walk and Talk visiting the Greek Chapel and a group of members went along to Parliament to see the Speakers flat to look at the Art collection. Their club will shortly start sailing from Titahi Bay Boating Club which is very exciting for the young disabled people in our area. We had Dr Elizabeth Sneyd from Virtuosa Strings and two of her young musicians aged 12 and 9 entertain us with music played on their violins at our last meeting.  A vibrant lady with a love and commitment to her music.  Several ladies from the Outside the Square group had a very interesting visit to the Whitireia Nursing School and a number of ladies volunteered their time helping with Daffodil Day. Debbie has just taken over as President of Plimmerton Inner Wheel Club for the 2013-2014 year. Debbie lives in Whitby with her two sons, Justin and Daniel, and her cat, Jessie. She has been in Inner Wheel for six years and the club’s Secretary for the past two. It is fitting that this photo of Debbie is taken outside as she is passionate about gardening.
