FYD with accompanying Stars

Alison Murray, Regional Manager, Foundation for Youth Development

Alison MurayAlison has been with this organisation for a short period of time but has already seen major changes in individuals involved in their programmes. FYD was born almost 20 years ago by mountaineer Graeme Dingle, wife Joanne Wilkinson and other like-minded individuals such as Sir Edmund Hillary, with the aim to reduce negative youth statistics.

FYD programmes use elements of the great outdoors, inspirational classroom leaders and mentors to help kids (from age 5 to 18) keep on track, develop confidence and self-belief, set goals for the future, and contribute positively to society.

FYD exists to improve the lives of all young New Zealanders covering the entire spectrum from in-risk youth to others who just need a nudge in the right direction to stay on track. FYD’s programmes teach life skills that are not a part of the school curriculum. They assist teachers and school staff to make the school environment more effective and harmonious.
