Tonight we will hear from Ragne Maxwell, principal of Porirua College, and the two students who attended the 2018 RYPEN programme.

Ragne says, 'As principal of Porirua College, I am really looking forward to coming back to talk to Rotary again. Our mission statement is that we develop powerful learners who are willing and able to use this quality in the service of their communities. The ideas of student leadership and community service are key foci for us this year. We have developed a new student leadership model with six different councils that students of any age can get involved with: student, arts, sports, academic, cultural and service.

It is wonderful to have programmes like RYPEN to explicitly grow leadership skills in students like Tulia Solomona and Pualaga Tuai'aufa'i. They will be key leaders for our school in 2019 when they are Year 13s and are potential future leaders in our wider community. Training young people of this outstanding quality is part of how we guarantee a better future for New Zealand.
