Rebecca Holden is a Wellington artist. She gained an MFA from Massey University, Wellington in 2013.
Her paintings employ visual narratives to explore the multiple guises of humanity. Rebecca was Artist in Residence at Expressions Whirinaki in 2014 and at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in 2017. More recently Rebecca was the 2018 Anzac Artist in Residence at NZ Pacific Studio. She has taught regularly at Massey University School of Fine Arts.
One of her paintings, ‘Hansel and Gretel Lost in the Woods’ – Oil and acrylic on paper, Rebecca Holden 2016, was selected as a finalist for the Wellington Regional Art Review on show from 24 September – 20 November 2016 at Expressions Art and Entertainment Centre, Upper Hutt NZ. She was again selected as a finalist this year for the biennial review of recent works by artists from the Wellington region held at the Golden Homes Gallery from 23 June - 5 August 2018. This exhibition showcased a wide range of media from a diverse number of artists.
Rebecca has exhibited widely in New Zealand and had her first international exhibition in 2017 in Israel, with her work ‘Sand in the Apricot Jam’ as part of the WW1 Centenary commemorations.
Rebecca's grandfather served with the NZ Mounted Rifles in WW1 and it is this association that is the launching point for her two WW1 arts projects 'Sand in the Apricot Jam' and 'A Home Away From Home'.
Tonight she will talk to us about WW1 art projects.
