The Honourable Kris Faafoi is the Labour Party MP for Mana, having been elected on 20 November 2010 and made his Maiden Statement on 14 December 2010. His current roles are:

  • Minister for Commerce and Consumer Affairs since October 2017
  • Minister for Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media since September 2018
  • Minister for Government Digital Serices since June 2019
  • Associate Minister for Housing (Public Housing) since June 2019

Kris's parents originate from the Tokelau atoll of Fakaofo. He grew up in Christchurch and trained as a journalist, working for the BBC and as a political commentator. Prior to the Mana by-election, he was the chief press secretary for Labour leader, hil Goff, and the Rongotai Pacific branch chair of the Labour party.

Kris now lives in Porirua with his partner Mae and three sons, one of whom, his youngest, Theo, you can see here when he came to the Opening of the MenzShed on 3 August.

His elder brother, Jason, is a TV presented and musician. They made a documentary together about their family visiting Tokelau which was released in 2004.
