Being a member of a Rotary Club implies that you are interested in doing good work in your community. A positive side effect of this is that sometimes, family members of a Rotary Club member will catch on to the idea of giving to other

An example of this is the charitable work done recently by Jason Pine, son of Plimmerton Rotary member David Pine and his wife Marg, both of whom are actively involved in the Porirua community.

Jason PineJason put his profile as a Newstalk ZB announcer and soccer commentator to good use by raising sponsorship for a 7km run for the benefit of Wellington’s Malaghan Research Institute. Jason ran a personal best time of 30:28 and in the process raised $1300 for Malaghan.

'It was a great feeling to be out there with hundreds of other runners', said Jason, 'all striving to do their best and knowing that, regardless of their performance on the day, a very worthwhile cause was going to reap the benefit. The Malaghan Institute is at the cutting edge of medical research worldwide and they are located right here in Wellington'.

Jason is urging others to take part in future events for the Malaghan Institute. 'You can find details on their web site, he says, 'It’s just such a great cause.'

Community service is contagious
