John Granville, from The Rotary Club of Kapiti, delivered  a speech of what he called 'pure entertainment'. And it was. You can read about some of the naval expressions he explained here.

Snippets

Inner Wheel are having a Movie Night on 31 July at 5.30 for 6.15 pm. Funds will go to 'Look Good, Feel Better'. The film is a true story about intercultural differences. Tickets at $25 each are available from Christine Blick and Janet Reidy.

Porirua Rotary Club have invited us to join them at their Police Memorial Breakfast this Friday 14 July  at 7.45 at the Memorial Wall at the Royal New Zealand Police College. You can find the details here.

Porirua Rotary have also invited us to an off-site visit to a local funeral home on Wednesday, 19 July at 6.00 pm at Gee and Hickton Funeral Directors, 6 Norrie Street, Porirua. The cost is $20 a head which will cover buffet style food and drinks. Proceeds will be donated to a Porirua Youth Project. Phone President Kathryn Beattie on 021 947 742.

Matthew di Leva, the runner-up from our Rotary Best Speakers Awards, and who joined us for the evening of 20 June with his parents, has sent us a delightful card, thanking us for the evening and saying how much he enjoyed giving his speech again - and especially how much he enjoyed the dessert!

What's coming up in July and beyond?

18 July - President Jenny will be sharing information with members about some of the plans and projects coming up in the year ahead.

Amandine Veine, our new International Exchange Student will arrive on 28 July. Details about her exact arrival at Wellington Airport will follow shortly.

7 October - Blood Pressure Day. All around New Zealand, Rotary Clubs will partner with St John Ambulance and Wellington Free Ambulance to provide free blood pressure readings at local New World and Pak'nSave supermarkets. This is part of the Stroke Awareness Campaign. We will be asking for volunteers to assist with this in the next few weeks.
