Plimmerton Rotary Weekly Update

Tuesday 25 October 2016

The Speaker said ...

David Pine's story, Wanted: Bums on Seats, talks about the growing local and international support for the Phoenix Football Club.

This week's happenings

Don Manning of Sailability has addressed us before about the sail-training programme for the disabled. Things are moving rapidly. The group at the Titahi Bay Boating club is now equipped with 5 yachts, radios and lifejackets, and now needs a proper wharf for launching. Don is leading the drive to raise $150,000. There are now 180 disabled sailors in the Wellington area, and a long waiting list.

What's coming up in November?

Paul Botha, Technical Strategy Manager for Meridian Energy, will speak on the wind farm development in Wellington, how they fit into the NZ electricity market, and their role in the future supply of energy. Check him out here.  paul_botha
Discovery X-Games - Sunday, 13 November. Talk to Donna to get more information.
Parumoana Speech Competition - Friday, 25 November
Pauatahanui Garden Trail - Sunday, 27 November

And what's coming up after that?

The Christmas party will take place aboard Sweet Georgia on Tuesday 13 December and the AGM will be on the 20th.
The first meeting in the new year will be on 17 January 2017.

The Outside World

Do you want to empower young people in your community to take action, become leaders, and gain a global perspective? Sponsor an Interact club! Whether they’re carrying out a service project, organizing a Twitter chat, or planning a meeting, Interact club members develop skills that can last a lifetime. Interact is a club for youth ages 12-18 who want to connect with other young people in their community or school. Interact club members have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about the world. Interact clubs organize at least two service projects a year: one that benefits their community and one that encourages international understanding. While Rotary clubs sponsor them, Interact clubs are largely self-sustaining, requiring little or no financial support from your club.
