The speaker said …

This week we were treated to a talk by Elijah Mareko, Mana MP Barbara Edmond’s nominee to be the Mana representative at the 2022 Youth Parliament. It was entitled “My journey through 2022- so far”. He wants to see young people take more interest in politics, and confessed that for him, a political career is now looming as an alternative to joining the RNZAF. You can read Mike's report here.

Phillip Reidy was The Person Behind the Badge tonight and regaled us with the story of his very eventful and fascinating career. You can read what he had to say here

What’s coming up in September and beyond?

Denise wished Euon Murrell and Ann Scannell respectively very safe and happy holidays abroad.

This week’s happenings

Past President Kay delivered six boxes of antiseptic wipes to Rangikura School a few days ago. The school use a lot of these and were, as always, grateful for our support. The wipes were given to us by Past DG Bob Smith and compliment the boxes we also donated some months ago.

The Outside World

In this article, you can read about Rotary Projects around the World; in the United States, Venezuela, Greece, Madagascar and Kazakhstan. Stories from other parts of the world helps us to appreciate that there's a lot going on everywhere where Rotary has a presence. This photo shows District 9220 Rotarians addressing humanitarian needs caused by the recent famine.

On 23 August, the City of Evanston celebrates 68 years as home to Rotary International World Headquarters. You can read some of the history from those years in this article.

Parting Thought

Graeme Blick gave us the Parting Thought tonight. with a quote from Dolly Parton. "The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain!"
