The speaker said …

Rotary members come from all walks of life. Each has their own special story. Rhondda Sweetman and Barry McEwen, the two new members who spoke at Plimmerton Rotary on 17th October, epitomised the rich diversity of the club. You can read more about their stories here.

Angus Langbein will be talking some more about the Inlet Clean Up next week so come prepared to say yes!

Ron Lucas asked if there was sufficient interest from members to undertake restoration planting on the just completed section of Te Ara Piko and received an enthusiastic response. Help is also needed on Lamb and Calf Day at Pauatahanui School with parking so if you can help, let Ron know.

Leigh Corner spoke about the wasp eradication programme he has been working on and noted that it had been very successful in the Nelson area with 10,000+ ha being treated with wasp specific poison. The same could not be said for here as the wasp population over summer was almost non-existent so no poisoning was undertaken. Leigh spoke to the Tree Crops Association and they have expressed a possible interest in a co-ordinating role for the region.

Jenny Lucas wished Amandine well as she moved to her next host family and indicated how much she and Ron had enjoyed being her host parents for the first part of her stay in New Zealand.

Graeme Blick is seeking feedback on the various Council of Legislation (COL) resolutions circulated in a recent District 9940 newsletter. In particular he is interested in feedback on the specific resolutions circulated by Graeme Tongs during the week and will talk to these next Tuesday.

The Outside World

Find out how mobile phones and simple text messaging being used in Pakistan and Nigeria may be the keys to victory in the world’s largest public health initiative: the eradication of Polio.

What’s coming up in October and beyond?

On 24 OctoberHamish Davidson will talk to us about some of the recent developments in the secondary/tertiary sector, educational pathways, employability skills, and more ...

You'll find all the details you need about our Rotary Pop up Shop in Hartham Place, Porirua from 13–17 November hereAlan Nichols noted that the pop-up shop will be selling books and promoting Plimmerton Rotary, Te Ara Piko Pathway, the Pauatahanui Garden Trail and the Book Fair. He will need support from club members.

Allan also spoke about the Children’s Christmas Party that will be held on 12 December 2017. If you are bringing children to the party please bring a beautifully wrapped and clearly named present for each child and limit your generosity to $20 for each present. Allan has found a fairy but does need a Father Christmas so please forward your CV to him if you are interested. There is no Club meeting that night.

Melbourne Cup night is on the 7th November and we will be combining with Tawa Rotary that night at Mana Cruising Club as Tawa’s venue is being used by others that night. Bring money to ensure your chances of a win and there will also be a raffle for Polio Plus. Partners are welcome. There will be no Committee meetings so committees may choose to reschedule their November meeting night.

A reminder about the Inside Out Arohata concert put on by the Arohata Prison ladies on 7 and 8 December
