President Kay welcomed Rotarians, partners, and visitors and made special mention of Rachel McKinnon who has visited before and whom we hope will soon be able to join us as a member, as well as Dianne Roberts and Honorary Member Christine Blick. She gave another special welcome to members of our Sister Club, Brighton North, and its President Brian Cox. She said it was great to have them join us and also to introduce our speakers, Gerry Lambourne, Kate Strain, Anne Cobham, and Sue Jones, all very experienced 
Rotarians with many, many projects they have led over the years. Kay pointed out that Brighton North has been our Sister Club since May-June last year but Covid has until now stymied attempts to work together. She said it was fantastic to communicate again after our few visits to each other’s meetings last year. She said how excited she is about finally getting our relationship with Brighton North to include more than just her and her friends. Looking into the future she hopes that sometime we will be able to plan something socially with our Sister Club – perhaps an exchange visit. This will not be organised until such time as we have much more certainty with International Travel. It would be pointless and stressful to start planning until we have certainty. If this happens within his tenure, our Social Committee Chair, Chris Garret, will liaise with our friends in Melbourne.

President Kay extends her thanks to everyone who attended and made this such a good meeting. Thanks to Peter, assisted by Graeme Tongs, who managed to get everyone into the 'room', and to those who had glitches for persevering. Although there are fewer opportunities to chat at a Zoom meeting, Kay knows that we will have been as impressed as she was with the number and scale of the projects our Sister Club Brighton North, with their 41 members, is involved in at present. And six new people are about to be inducted. Very impressive! Shortly we will arrange a reciprocal visit with some of our members telling their Club about our projects. They meet on Thursdays at 6.30 so that's 8.30 pm our time, enabling us to eat first!

What’s coming up in September and beyond?
Friday Frolics will happen this Friday at the Supply Room at 5.00 pm. Please let Kay know if you would like to attend as she has to book tables of 6 to comply with their Covid regulations about social distancing.
Our meeting next week will be at the Cruising Club. As advertised Dr. Taku Parai of Ngati Toa will be our speaker. To comply with Delta Level 2 Rules we will meet for conversation from 6.00 pm, wearing masks and socially distancing. Please proceed directly to a table where you will be served drinks by the bar staff. Payment will be by mobile EFTPOS machine. The formal meeting will begin at 6.30 pm. Duties, including Viewpoint, are shown in the roster here as usual. It would help staff if you arrive earlier than 6.30 if possible so they have time to serve drinks to everyone before the meal at 6.30. The meal will be a buffet at each table so you will only be sharing with those at your table.
President Kay asks that we show support for our Club and our speaker by having a great meeting.

Snippets
Unfortunately, Tania has recently resigned from the Board. Instead of forming a new International Committee, Kay is, with the Board’s approval, putting that committee’s three tasks under the umbrella of our Club Service Director, Denise. Two of the projects, End Polio Now and Give Every Child a Future are mainly administrative. We need to decide whether to donate to them this year and if so where the money comes from. The other project is liaising with Brighton North to develop a project which our Clubs can plan and implement together, hopefully attracting a Global Grant to enable finances to stretch further. Dallas, who has been on the International Committee has agreed to be our liaison person with Brighton North. Dallas will report directly to Denise and will still be supported by Graeme Blick.

This week’s happenings
You'll have heard Rhondda mention during the meeting how useful she found the social media training session run by Ramola Duncan from the Learning and Development Team. You'll have received invitations to two other interactive modules, one from Ramola Duncan on Monday 13 September at 6.00 pm via Zoom, and one from Jane McCann on Saturday 11 September at 10.00 am with your morning tea! President Kay encourages attendance at sessions such as these. If you want to attend either, please let her know.

Interplast - Repairing Bodies and Rebuilding Lives. Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anesthetists, and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in seventeen countries around the Asia Pacific region.
