Visitors
Past President Donna, stood in for President Kay this evening, currently on holiday in Melbourne with family. There were no visitors and members repaired to their various committees when dinner was over.
Viewpoint
Bryan Waddle gave us his Viewpoint about Transmission Gully and particularly about the number of complaints that have been made about various aspects. Bryan considered that it is a marvelous piece of engineering construction and suggested that people should get over themselves, use it and enjoy it.
What’s coming up in May and beyond?
Jenny reminded members that the trip on mv Sweet Georgia will replace next week's meeting on Tuesday 10 May. 50 people have subscribed to enjoy a cruise around the Harbour. (Remember not to turn up at MCC as there will be no meal awaiting you!) If you need reminding about any of the details, you can find them here.
She also reminded the 14 members who have put their names down that the Fishing Trip will take place on Thursday 19 May. She encouraged members to find out if there was anyone else who might like to come as there were a couple more places available.

Snippets
Graham Craig gave an update on activities at Porirua Garden. Nick had helped to harvest some lettuces and spinach which he had taken to the Food Bank. Beans are nearly ready for harvesting and he will be asking for more help soon.
Donna mentioned that she will be shopping this week for pre-school clothing as additional donations have arrived. In a couple of weeks, the teachers will come to our meeting to tell us the impact that a year of clothing has had on the children in their kindergartens.
This week’s happenings
Alison Cox reports that it’s been a while since the BLV collection on 26 March! She has found it frustrating trying to get information from Auckland, possibly caused by Covid and staff shortages. The good news is that Countdown Aotea collected $1,331.70. Alison believes that’s the highest individual site collection she has had in her time as the local coordinator and she sends grateful thanks to the collectors.

So, while our table was situated at the bottom of the ramp and we appeared to be isolated, the collection figures indicate we were in a very good spot. The total for Porirua over the two days was $5447.65. This is a good outcome as we didn’t have New World Porirua, North City Mall, or Pak'n'Save because of Covid restrictions.
Parting thought
Tania Woodcock gave us the Parting Thought tonight, somewhat inspired by the upcoming harbour cruise next Tuesday! William Arthur Ward said, 'The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change' the realist adjusts the sails'.
