Visitors

President Bill welcomed Honorary Member, Les Austing.

Viewpoint

Derek Oldershaw gave us his Viewpoint tonight. He said that, after listening to countless hours of morning and evening news that included interviews with a variety of people, his expectation was that interviewers should be neutral as possible and not bully interviewees. It was his view that interviewees should be treated with respect, however probing the questions.

This week’s happenings

Plimmerton Inner Wheel has had a busy month. You can read all about it in their August Newsletter.

Snippets

Kay reported on the huge success of the first Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and gave particular thanks to all the hosts, especially Graham Wallace and Joe Perera who had helped with fetching and carrying meals beforehand and trays afterwards. She received a warm round of applause for her excellent organisation of the event.

Porirua Club will be hosting a Quiz Night on Wednesday 9 September. We have sent teams to compete in their quizzes in the past and have sometimes come away with the trophy! If you would like to be part of a team, please let President Bill know.

Please take notice of the arrangements for 1 September below. Even if you put your name on the form that went round on Tuesday evening, you still need to apologise to Professionals if you will be absent, or notify them of any additional guests that you will be bringing along.

Treasurer Bruce announced that the weekly cost of meals will rise to $27 with effect from October. He asked members to change their automatic payments to $100 per month with effect from their October payment. Meals for visitors to the Club will remain at $25.

What’s coming up in September and beyond?

The restrictions in place to combat the spread of Covid-19 may put future plans in jeopardy. If any of the following events cannot take place, we will notify you by email.

This is a weekly reminder to check out Nick's Plimmerton Rotary Calendar - mentioned on our Home page.

The next Drinks and Nibbles will be on Sunday 30 August. Put your name on the list if it isn't already there. Chris will let you know where to go.

On Tuesday 1 September, we will host District Governor Gillian Jones. Although this is not the evening of her formal visit, (which will be on  20 October) it will, nonetheless, be a special meeting. It will be a partners' evening so please invite friends and family (particularly young ones and those interested in community service!) to show them that we have fun and do things a little differently. It will be a casual, relaxed evening with finger food and you will find all the details about the speaker on the link above.

There's an ongoing invitation on the Events page to volunteer to help with planting and weeding with the Friends of Taupo Swamp. All future dates are set out, the next being Saturday 5 September from 9.00 am-12.00 pm.

With the uncertainty that has been caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, the 2020 Book Fair, scheduled for the weekend of 3-4 October, has been cancelled for this year.

You can find future events on the Events page.

Parting thought

John Gillon gave us a quote from Joel Osteen for his Parting Thought tonight. 'You're going to go through tough times - that's life. But I say, "Nothing happens to you; it happens for you." See the positive in negative events.'

Who’s on duty for the next month?

Unable to do your duty? Please find a replacement and inform Graham Wallace.
If you're a late 'no show' please tell President Bill.
Please arrive at 5.45 pm if you're on Door duty or on Introduction duty to greet the Guest Speaker and be his/her host for the evening.
Need to apologise or bring additional guests?
Advise the Receptionist at Professionals before 10.00 am on the Monday before the meeting on 233 9955 or email paremata@dwre.co.nz if you prefer.
Please provide the name (and spelling if necessary). The same applies if you're going to be late.
