What’s coming up in December and beyond?
David Knight reminded members that the very exciting Parumoana Speech Competition will be taking place this Friday, 2 December at Discovery School at 9.00 for 9.30 am. Those who have been before could be seen busily noting the date in their diaries as an event not to be missed. David urged members who have not enjoyed this special occasion in the past to come along to be enthralled and impressed.
Next Tuesday, 6 December, is the Children's Christmas Party. The entertaining will start at 4.45 pm with dinner at 6.00 pm. Allan and his team have a great programme on offer with just one request from Santa - please write names in large letters on the presents as his eyesight is failing.
The last knees up of the year will be on Friday 9 December at Judgeford Golf Club - the Club Christmas Party. You can find all the details here.
For those of us who have memory problems, be advised that there will be no more meetings until Tuesday 17 January when there will be a social get together at Ruby's. Following that, there will be a casual start to the year on Tuesday 24 January at Mana Cruising Club and formal meetings will start on Tuesday 31 January.

This will be the last Update of the year so the Editor wishes everyone a very Happy Christmas and a safe, happy, and healthy 2023.
Snippets
Before the meeting began, the AGMs for Plimmerton Rotary and the Plimmerton Rotary Charitable Trust took place. The procedural matters were dealt with very efficiently. As is normal practice, President Denise announced that Colin Whyte has been nominated as President Nominee and will take office for the 2024-2025 year. Although it is customary for the President-Elect to announce the 2023-2024 Board at the AGM, President-Elect Tania said that she would be delaying this announcement until the New Year.
Graham Craig updated members on progress at the Porirua Garden. A wide variety of vegetables is growing apace and he takes several boxes to the Salvation Army each week. Sera Toloi says that they provide food to 25-30 families each week, some of which can have a household of 4-8 people. They appreciate the quality and nutrition provided by our offering and is grateful that it is continuing. Graham reported that there is a small team of helpers each week but he would appreciate even more to spread the load. Some of the helpers bring produce from their own gardens when they have a surplus.
Allan asked members to note the week of 27 February-4 March 2023 in their calendars. In conjunction with Plimmerton Inner Wheel, we will be running a Pop Up Shop at 7 Serlby Place, Porirua from 10.00-4.00 each day. Allan will provide more details in the New Year but in the meantime, please start collecting items for sale such as books, garden tools, CDs, DVDs and clothing. You can continue to donate larger items to Phillip and Mike for the De-Cluttering initiative.
Very many thanks to those of you who volunteered your time to wrap Christmas presents at North City Plaza over December. While the schedule appears to be full, some Porirua members have put their names down five times to fill the gaps. Please let me know if you can offer your time to help and I will put you in touch with Kath Beattie who knows who needs to be spelled. I did my first (of three) stints today, and it's great fun meeting happy shoppers. Two of those were, incidentally, Ian and Terrie Turner! It was good to catch up.
