The speaker said ...

Read what David has to say about the very entertaining speakers we heard on Tuesday evening. If you have a bike that you would like to donate to Jan's cause, please tell Donna. Jan can coordinate a van or trailer.

Visitors

We welcomed John Poppleton, one of the most inveterate bicycle riders in Porirua, who came to hear what Jan and Mark had to say.

Snippets

President Jenny told us that Amandine is still enjoying her trip to the South Island.

Deb Mair is doing a live interview on TVNZ Breakfast at 8.40 am on Thursday 30 November about Rotary, Rages and Rhinos. Record it if you can't watch it live. She's bound to be impressive.

The Garden Trail on Sunday 28 January will only be a success if we manage to sell the tickets. You'll find all the details on our Events page here so please continue to do some marketing so that we can raise more funds for Te Ara Piko.

The Outside World

Read how Habitat for Humanity and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness join with Rotary to improve lives.

Parting thought

Emma gave us a parting thought left by Richard Anstice, quoting Ogden Nash, 'I think that I shall never see a billboard lovely as a tree. Perhaps, unless the Billboard falls, I'll never see a tree at all'!!

This week's happenings

A committed group, led by Donna, turned up at Te Rauparaha Arena on Monday morning to help to guide the disabled athletes inside for the Opening Ceremony. Here are some of the team. It was a tear-jerking experience, not only to see the joy and enthusiasm but also to receive so many hugs from the passing athletes.

You can read the latest report on the Shine Literacy Project on the Shine site here. We're mentioned in despatches.

DG Mitch wants to promote the latest End Polio Now so here are a couple of documents that will give you the latest Facts and Figures and a PolioPlus Fact Sheet. Anything you can do to promote funding towards the Rotary Foundation and the End Polio Now campaign will help.  Facts_and_Figures_Sept_2017-EN

What's coming up in November and beyond?

Events to the end of the year (and beyond in some cases) are on our Events page.  Here are the highlights. Events for 2018 will be posted soon.

The Parumoana Speech competition has come round again. David has everything well organised as usual, and primary school contestants will begin to speak at 9.30 am at Aotea College Library. All are welcome and it's an event worth going to if speeches given in previous years are anything to go by.

It's Christmas this Friday evening, 1 December, at The Spine at Pataka. Dress like a true kiwi (at the beach) if you'd like to. Park in the Harvey Normal car park as there will be a security guard on the western entrance door.

Remember the stock take fundraiser at Whitby New World on Sunday 3 December from 6.00-9.00 pm. We will be paid $18 per hour so the more the merrier. Wearing your Rotary shirts might be a good plan to fly the flag! Let Donna know if your name isn't already on the list.

5 December is a planning meeting - the last of the year. Rosie Darrah, our outgoing International Exchange Student to Switzerland will come to talk to us.

No normal meeting on 12 December - it's the night of the grandchildren's Christmas party so come along if you're involved.

19 December is the AGM - should be quick!

We're in recess until 16 January 2018 when there will be a social evening at Ron and Jenny's.
