The Update for 29 November was going to be the last of the year but several activities have taken place in December that will be seriously out of date by the time we're back in business in January.
So, here's some news for those of you who would like to catch up with what's been going on.
Parumoana Schools' Speech Competition
Parumoana Schools' Speech CompetitionThe Parumoana Schools' Speech Contest duly took place on 2 December and was as entertaining, stimulating and impressive as ever. In this photo you can see all the students who participated, President Denise, Deputy Principal of Discovery School and Chief Schools organiser, Sarah Jenner, (back left and no taller than many of the participants!) The Children's Christmas Party
The Children's Christmas Party John O'Connell writes that the Children’s Christmas Party was held at the Cruising Club on 6 December and a great time was had by both parents and grandchildren. The party started with magician Nigel Kennedy and his very large white rabbit putting on a great and entertaining show. The children were enthralled with his magic tricks and balloon sculptures he made for his many helpers. Then there was the appearance of Santa Claus and his fairy helper to hand out lovely presents for all the kids who had been very good all year (according to their parents) – there was a great range of very well thought-out presents. The caterers provided sumptuous boxed meals and ice cream for the little ones, and pork belly/vegetables and trifle with cream for the ‘older’ ones. After dinner it got very noisy when the whistles came out, and then all too soon it was time to go. A big thanks is due to Allan Nichols and his team of merry helpers for putting on another great Christmas Party for our kids and grand-kids. A Christmas surprise
A Christmas surpriseThis photo shows John Kelly of New World Porirua, seeing off two cartons of Popsicles for a year end treat to be presented to the students of Holy Family Primary School in Porirua at their Graduation Assembly on 13 December. This was a generous gift from John given to a good cause. Principal Sue Goodwin had suggested this as a practical way of sharing the Christmas Spirit, where it was difficult to select individual students. Plimmerton Rotary has given financial support to Holy Family School in the past by contributing to a sound system but this gift was initiated by Michael Parker who liaised with John to arrange a special Christmas treat for the students.
And as for the final event of the year, the Club Christmas Party on 9 December, suffice to say that it was a thoroughly joyful and happy evening with Bryan as Emcee, Dexter as chief chorister, and too many people to mention who beavered away in the background to ensure that the whole evening ran smoothly and effortlessly. If photos were taken, the editor hasn't received them so this must be a case of 'what occurs on the night stays on the night'. If things change, you'll be the first to know.

A brief reminder that there will be a social get together at Ruby's on Tuesday 17 January, followed by a social meeting to start the year at Mana Cruising Club on Tuesday 24 January.
