Rotary Club of Plimmerton By Adrienne Murray
The Oxford dictionary describes a forum as a place for public discussion and, in Rotary terms, a forum is an opportunity for a club to discuss matters of interest, concern and potential development for the club.
In the Rotary Club of Plimmerton we try and have a forum early in each Rotary year to give members a chance to have a say and comment on what is happening in the club. This year was no different except that I decided that rather than having a single discussion in the room we would have group discussions. I gave members "post it notes” to put up their comments, be they positive or negative, about what was happening in the club.
Exactly 50 comments were received ranging from “change nothing” to “let’s work with local business more” and really interesting comments in-between. I attached to my email newsletter a list of all the comments, sorted by relevance to a committee. The Committee Directors will be asked to take these back to their committees for discussion and, where appropriate, action.
We moved on to have table discussions on potential projects that the club could get involved in. The room was noisy and, judging from some of the suggestions that came out, the club has the potential to have an interesting number of years ahead. All the information from these discussions was collected by Joe Parerea for discussion by the Projects Committee.
Thank you to all members who contributed during the evening. These forums are important and lay the foundation for moving the club forward in a way that acknowledges the mana, skills and experience of our members and explores new opportunities for us.
I will come back with comments from each of the committees when they have had time to discuss your comments and ideas. It is worth noting that the positive outweighed the negative by 42 to 8.

Our speaker for next week will be Rob Slade from the Robinson Research Institute. The multidisciplinary Institute melds innovative engineering and applied physics to build advanced technologies for businesses worldwide. Bob Slade is their principal engineer.

The club are having a fundraiser on Thursday 17 September for Habitat for Humanity Nepal Earthquake Relief Shelters for Families. The date is Thursday 17 September 2015. Sandie bravely sat in the hot seat on Sunday and began to pick up some of the tricks of the trade in how to post on the website. The blog aove is one of the ones she loaded. She said, 'I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learnt a lot of new skills'.

Sadly our results have taken a downward plunge this month with about two hundred fewer users. With everything we've got in the pipeline we feel sure the trend will go up again soon.
