Tonight our speaker will be Dr Russ Ballard, Chairman of The Board at Rotary Peace, Remembrance and Community Forests Trust. He will be able to bring us up to date with the Rotary Forest Project, a New Zealand-wide project to celebrate the centenary of Rotary commencing in NZ and Australia.
In April 2020 we posted a blog to update club members about the 'Rotary 100 Forests of Peace and Remembrance' project. You can read it again here.
Dr Ballard joined Rotary in January 1998. He has served time on virtually all of Rotary’s committees. He is one of New Zealand’s most significant public servants, having been DirectorGeneral of the Ministry of Education, Director-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Secretary of Forestry. He has also been Acting Chief Executive of Child Youth and Family. He has balanced these roles with a solid commitment to Rotary which is unquestionable.
Dr Ballard was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2004. He was the President of the Rotary Club of Wellington in 2005 and 2006. With his typically analytical and academic skills, he has brought his talents to bear in assisting in the major club project that is Eureka, the Sir Paul Callaghan Awards - again, balancing his work on this with his important role as Chancellor of Massey University.
