The Rotary Clubs of Johnsonville, Plimmerton, Porirua and Tawa are holding a charity event on the evening of 17 October. We will both celebrate 125 years of suffrage and talk about what else needs to be done.

We have four interesting and inspiring speakers:

  • Jan Logie, our local Green MP and a woman at the forefront of working on ways to reduce violence in the home
  • Judith Collins, who has done significant work on human rights from a legal perspective and has represented New Zealand on international working groups, and spoken at international conferences on this subject
  • Roseta Lopa, a very talented senior student from Porirua College who will talk to us about being a young woman in 2018. Roseta is not only an excellent speaker but also one of Le Art singing trio
  • Maisy Bentley, Most Inspirational Person of the Year in the Pride Awards from 2016 who will be talking about what young people can do to have an impact on women's issues and how adults can include them in these conversations.

We are hoping for plenty of community support for this event. Here is the flyer, which will give you plenty of information. Our fourth speaker is not included on the flyer as we weren't sure that we would be able to tear her away from her studies.  Womens_Suffrage_flyer
