Our speaker tonight is Rebecca (Bex) Jackson who works with DOC in Southland. She will be telling us all about bats.

‘New Zealand doesn't have any native land mammals, only birds, insects and lizards’, is the often-said statement. This is so very wrong, says Bex!

Hidden away from the public eye and the knowledge of most kiwis are some of New Zealand's most fascinating creatures, our native bats.

Weighing less than a mouse, roosting in trees by day, and foraging at night they aren't the species to study but as a biodiversity ranger for the Department of Conservation, it's one of her jobs to monitor and protect them.
