Visitors

Apart from Honorary members, Inner Wheel members, and partners of Rotarians (just too many to name), it was lovely to welcome Bevan Smith from Porirua, Dianne McGavin, and Liz Sandell who had come to support Angus on the very special celebration of his 50th anniversary in Rotary.

The speaker said …

The undoubted highlight of the club's 2018 Christmas party was the celebration of Angus Langbein’s fifty years’ service to the Rotary movement. You can read Mike's summing up of the evening here.

Snippets

President Donna extended grateful thanks to Terrie and Ian and to Youth Director Bill for all the work they had done for the Kids' Christmas party. Sergeant Jo will be coming to talk to us in due course. This was a fantastic opportunity for Rotary to provide the organisation and means of community engagement, bringing huge benefits to both the kids and the police recruits for whom assisting young children will soon be a part of their day-to-day work and you can read Terrie's report here.

And wait, there's more. She thanked Phillip for producing the excellent visual presentation to celebrate some of Angus' many contributions to Rotary over the 50 years - and provided some great reminiscences too! (Wasn't it funny to see how young we all looked back in the day?) For those of you who would like another look, Phillip has made the presentation into two .pdf files, with one showing the letter of congratulation from Barry Rassin, the World President. The files are now in the Intranet in 'Visual memories year by year' towards the bottom of the right column. Here's the link to the page but remember that you won't be able to access it until you enter your username and password. While you're on the page you'll find that it's at the top of the list of some of the Changeover presentations over the years. While you're there, you might like to make a cuppa and enjoy some of those memories.

And last, but by no means least, President Donna extended grateful thanks to President-elect Euon and his team for all the arrangements that had been made for the occasion. Eighty people enjoyed an evening of fun and laughter.

But wait, there's still more! Congratulations to Euon Murrell for the honour of being confirmed as a Life Member of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand this week.

The Almoner said ...

President Donna offered special thoughts to our Rotarian whanau who could not be with us tonight due to ill health. She asked us all to keep them in our thoughts.

Reminders:

  • Johnsonville Club would like some extra volunteers for car parking at their market, the same day as the Johnsonville Christmas Parade, in the morning of 1 December. Please let Donna know if you can help.
  • And remember that you are welcome to just go along on 9 December to the Street Party that Mount Kaukau are putting on in Khandallah. (No volunteering needed!)
  • Porirua Club has asked for help with Christmas wrapping at North City Plaza. Kathryn Beattie is in charge and you can email her on kathryn.beattie3@gmail.com to offer to fill one of the slots where more help is needed.

This week’s happenings

Jonathan Lemalu is joining Virtuoso Strings for a concert they've called 'Some Enchanted Evening' at Wellington Opera House on 3 December. This will be another extraordinary evening showcasing our local talent.

The latest newsletter from Mana Zonta has just arrived. It's jam-packed with success stories (they're very good at fundraising so perhaps we can learn a thing or two from them ...) Remember to apply for tickets if you want to go to the Arohata Christmas Concerts on 4 or 5 December - apparently, they have lots of tickets available. It's always a memorable occasion.  Zonta_December__2018

And we've received another December newsletter, this time from Mana Lions. A good read and you may want to put the date for the 'Eat, Drink and Be Crafty Fair' on 26 January into your diary.  Mana_Lions_December_2018_newsletter

It promises to be a great evening. Normal meal cost of $25 applies to the adults, with $10 boxed meals for children. Please bring a named gift of $25 ish for each child you bring. If you are not attending Rotary that night, please apologise to Sandra at Professionals.

And yet another reminder that our last meeting of the year is on 18 December and will feature the AGMAnnie Grenfell, outgoing Exchange Student to Chile, will tell us about her expectations after the AGM.
