Plimmerton Rotary Weekly Update

Tuesday 21 February 2017

No speaker this week

It's the third Tuesday again so members went off to do some future planning in their Committees.

Snippets

The District Governor's February 'Hot off the Press' is now available. If you haven't received your own copy, you can read it here.
Kapiti Expressway. President Peter joined over 20,000 people pouring onto the Kapiti Expressway for an open day last Saturday that gave the community a chance to walk on the asphalt of a project that opens to traffic this month.
Rotary's birthday. Rotary International is celebrating 112 years of service on 23 February. A suitably decorated cake was our dessert after dinner.
Rotary Foundation turns 100. Graeme Blick responded to our toast to the Rotary Foundation which began when Arch Klump gave the first donation of $26.50. Foundation funds have been used for vocational students, peace scholars, humanitarian grants, district grants and the Polio eradication programme. What will be the next challenge? Will it be Water? Our District asks each club to donate $100/head/year to The Rotary Foundation so the work can continue.
Firewood - The firewood project is ready to get underway again with a ‘paddock’ full of dry firewood to be sold.  Spread the word and give Peter names of buyers.
Wendy Betteridge is hosting a young Frenchwoman from 14 April to 16 June. Lucie is studying law and will be an intern in our court system. Club members are encouraged to include Lucie in any appropriate family activities while she is here.

The Outside World

Bill Gates has confirmed that he will be speaking at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, from 10-14 June. You can register for the Conference here
