President Euon welcomed District 9940 Governor John Mohi and his wife, Lane, Adrienne in her capacity as Assistant Governor and Christine Blick, as part of the District Governor 'train'.

The Speaker said ...

Tonight we had the pleasure of hosting District Governor John Mohi and his wife, Lane. Among many other things, he told us about three flagship projects that are in the planning stages and for which he would be seeking our support. You can read Mike's report here.

Viewpoint

Bob Austin used his Viewpoint to bring members up to date with the enormous amount of work that's taking place for the Club's Project, 'Dancing for Life Education' in conjunction with Life Education Trust. He observed that we have a collection of a diverse set of skills and knowledge within the club and encouraged us to look at our neighbours and ask ourselves what we know about each other. The event will take place on 18 July 2020, when Te Rauparaha Arena will host 'Dancing for Life Education', an event loosely based on TV’s 'Dancing with the Stars'. You can learn more about it here

This week's happenings

The August edition of the Our Porirua E-Newsletter was sent out last Friday. There are a couple of events that may be of interest, particularly the production called 'Mattering' being put on by Porirua College about students who truant, for five nights from 16-20 September. You can read it here.

Every August the Chief Coroner releases provisional suicide statistics. They are rising. Workshops have been arranged by A.OK New Zealand in Wellington on 19 September, 26-27 September and 27 September. If you would like to attend any of these workshops, please talk to Donna.

Hutt City Rotary has a showing of 'Billy and the Kids' - a documentary about Billy Graham - at the Lighthouse Cinema, Petone on Tuesday 24 September at 8.00 for 8.30 pm. Tickets are $25 each. If you're interested, please get in touch with Bob Rowell

Bill McAulay said that the 'Rotary Best Speaker Awards' event coming up this Saturday, 7 September,  was 'the most rewarding thing that I do in Rotary'. He urged members to join him at 9.00 for 9.30 am at Anchor Church on the corner of Joseph Banks/James Cook Drives. Star Jam will be entertaining us as usual. Please wear your Rotary gear and bring along lunch to share - the participants 'eat a lot'!

What's coming up in September and beyond?

Next week, 10 September, Steve Sanderson, CEO of Wellington International Airport, will talk to us about future developments of the airport (longer runways etc).

The 'End Polio Now' Train will set off from Palmerston North, bound for Masterton, on Thursday 24 October. Michael Fagg will be producing some Q&As shortly but in the meantime, if you have questions, please speak to Adrienne.

You can find all future events here. There are some very exciting speakers coming up and you may want to invite prospective members to come along ...

Parting thought

Cris Suarez, on behalf of Peter Sinke, gave us the parting thought, 'When you put a date on a dream, it becomes a goal. A goal divided into steps becomes a plan and a plan supported by actions becomes reality. For that reason, all things are possible in life'.
