President Donna welcomed Alex McKenzie, from the Rotary Club of Nelson West. Alex has visited us before.
Viewpoint
There was no viewpoint but Graeme Blick, newly returned from the Council of Legislation in Chicago, described the lack of compatibility between Rotary clubs and satellite clubs regarding financial reporting. For 80% of the people, it was their first appearance and there was a clear disjoint between rank and file and the hierarchy. Important matters such as the environment, climate change and young people were not considered in any great detail. There will be a $1 increase in dues annually for the next three years. Rotaract has been brought under the Rotary umbrella.

The 2019 New Zealand - Australia Rotary Conference entitled 'Regeneration' will be held in Christchurch from 20-22 September 2019. Here's a link to find out more about it.
Mana Lions are holding a BBQ to celebrate the opening of the new Battle Hill Shelter, Battle Hill Farm Park, Paekakariki Hill Road on Friday 24 May at 2.00 pm. If you would like to join the Lions for this event, please make contact with David Thomson.

President Donna announced that Kay Phillips, who has previously held this office in another club, has been nominated as President to follow Bill Mc Aulay in 2021-22. This will be ratified at the AGM in December.
President-Elect, Euon, reported that 70 people have registered for the Changeover Dinner. The bus is full. Please remember to tell Euon if you want to come because security checks have to be made on all who attend.
May is Rotary International's Youth Service Month. During this special month, Rotarians and young members of the Rotary family, including Interactors, Rotaractors, RYLA and Rotary Youth Exchange participants, are encouraged to develop meaningful connections that last throughout the year.
Contrary to what Donna told us at the meeting about the Exchange Student from Chile, Jenny has had confirmation of other hosts and so our Club will be able to host the lad from Chile. This will involve a cost of $80 to each member of the Club.
Sadly, Roger Bannister has resigned as he is leaving the Wellington area. He and his wife have bought a caravan and have become gypsies.
President Donna made special floral presentations to Wendy Betteridge, Peter Sincke and Bruce Couch for the enormous amount of work they have done to support her and the Club this year.
Three ERKs were purchased from the proceeds of the Daffodils Fundraising event.
The Board is considering setting aside $3000 to support another Cambodian student to attend university.
Prime Minister Adern has named Little Sprouts as one of two charities to receive a donation in lieu of a present to Prince Harry and Meghan's baby.
The Almoner said ...
Sue Adams reported that Terrie was very grateful for all those who had visited her. She is now at home and would welcome visitors. If you intend to visit it might be kind to take a small savoury morsel as her movements are very limited.

Porirua Rotary is having an information fun quiz night on Wednesday 22 May at Porirua Club at 5.45 for 6.15 pm with dinner, followed immediately by the quiz. Last year Plimmerton won the trophy so we have something to defend this year!
